Rangers To DFA Dane Dunning, Call Up Tucker Barnhart Awaiting News On Kyle Higashioka

The Texas Rangers have been forced into making some roster moves ahead of today’s game against the Athletics.

Following the Rangers 15-2 victory over the A’s on Tuesday night, catcher Kyle Higashioka reported some tightness in his right hamstring.

Awaiting news on whether or not Higashioka will need to head to the IL, the Rangers have made some roster moves.

For the time being, the new second catcher will be Tucker Barnhart whose contract has been purchased from AAA Round Rock.

In 69 at-bats with the Express, Barhart is slashing .246/.354/.745 with 2 home runs and 12 runs batted in.

To make room for Barnhart on the 40-man roster, Dane Dunning has been designated for assignment.

Dunning was just recalled from AAA Round Rock on Monday and pitched the final three innings of the Texas win last night, allowing two runs.

If Higashioka needs to be placed on the IL, the Rangers will need to make another move for a pitcher.

Most likely, that pitcher will be Cole Winn, who has not allowed an earned run in 17.2 innings in AAA this season.

As of now, the Rangers will play tonight’s game with 12 pitchers. However, the full bullpen is available since Dunning was the only reliever used last night.
