Rangers Reliever Chris Martin Suffers Set Back During Live BP

Texas Rangers reliever Chris Martin suffered a setback during a Live BP session on Tuesday afternoon at Globe Life Field.

After not having appeared in an MLB game since July 21st, Martin was attempting to clear a big hurdle in rehabbing his left calf strain.

However, things did not go as planned, as Martin left the mound with a trainer after facing just one batter during the session.

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that the team would have to “back off” on Martin’s rehab and continue to reevaluate him.

Moving forward, the plan is to give Martin two or three days off before the Rangers determine the best way to move along in the process.

This is Martin’s second stint on the IL this season after he missed 14 games earlier this season with right shoulder fatigue.

When on the field this season, Martin has been one of the Rangers best bullpen arms, having posted a 2.36 ERA in 34.1 innings.

As a whole, the Rangers bullpen leads the American League with a 3.26 ERA this season and recently added Danny Coulombe and Phil Maton at the trade deadline.

There is no doubt, the Rangers will need their bullpen to continue to produce as the club enters play on Tuesday night, 2.5 games behind the New York Yankees for the final AL Wild Card spot and 6.5 games behind the Houston Astros for first place in the AL West.
