Rangers Prospect Sebastian Walcott Draws Big Praise From ESPN In Updated Top 50
ESPN just announced an updated list of their Top 50 Prospects in Major League Baseball, and for Rangers fans, a familiar face is near the top.
Rangers top prospect Sebastian Walcott took home the number four ranking from ESPN’s rankings team.
Boston outfielder Roman Anothony, Pirates starter Bubba Chandler, and Padres SS Leodalis De Vries were each ranked above Walcott.
Notably, Walcott was ranked above shortstop prospects considered more MLB-ready in Marcelo Mayer (#6 BOS) and DFW native Jordan Lawler (#7 AZ).
Walcott is the Rangers undisputed top prospect and ranks in the top ten of pretty much every outlet’s rankings.
Since signing with Texas at age 16, Walcott has quickly and impressively risen on scouts’ radars.
In 2024, Walcott played just five games and a playoff run with AA Frisco after quickly rising through the organization.
While being the Riders’ everyday shortstop in 2025, Walcott is slashing .238/.335/.401 with 5 home runs and 19 RBI.
Defensively, Walcott has played 29 games at shortstop and one at third base, making nine errors in 101 chances.
It’s not out of the question that Walcott could scratch the surface in AAA this season despite being just 19 years old.
It’s also not much of a question to say that Walcott is the best Rangers position player prospect since Jurickson Profar was baseball’s top prospect in 2011 and 2012.
