On Tuesday afternoon at Globe Life Field, the Texas Rangers officially introduced their 2025 first-round draft pick, Gavin Fien.

Fien was selected 12th overall in the draft earlier this month out of Great Oaks High School in California at a reported $4.8 million price tag with slot value being around $5.7 million.

“Words can’t describe it,” Fien said when talking about being picked by the Rangers. “It’s a surreal feeling being able to go to a team like this”.

“Being able to go to a team like this in the Texas Rangers, it’s something that you dream about [going to] a big market team. They’re always displayed in the media. Just growing up, they’re a nationally recognized team, so to be able to be drafted in the first round and be a part of that is something that was almost surreal and something that I’m just very grateful for.

After attending tonight’s Rangers game against the Athletics and taking BP with the guys before the game, Fien will report to Surprise Arizona tomorrow for a mini camp the Rangers hold with all their new draft picks according to Rangers President Of Baseball Operations Chris Young.

For Young and Rangers director of amature scouting Kip Fagg, Fien has been a player that Texas has identified as a target for a long time now and someone the Rangers belive will be an impact player for years to come.

“I think first and foremost kinda the person first and just getting to know him and know what kinda kid is his and what kinda drive he has and determination plus the ability” Fagg said when speaking about why the Rangers selected Fien.

“To have a guy that we believe is a plus power, plus hit, player who’s gonna defend, play both sides of the ball, be an offensive threat and have a chance to hit in the middle of your lineup so you can’t access those guys a lot and we feel like we accessed one this year”.
