Rangers Make Plethora Of Roster Moves Before Showdown With O’s

The Texas Rangers made a series of roster moves on Tuesday afternoon before they take on the Baltimore Orioles in the second game of a three-game set.

After missing yesterday’s game to attend to a personal matter, Evan Carter has been placed on the Bereavement list.

Carter has put together a really solid season after starting the year with AAA Round Rock. In 32 games with the Rangers this season, Carter is hitting 2.83 with four home runs, four doubles, 11 RBI, 8 stolen bases, and an .816 OPS.

Taking Carter’s place on the roster is DFW native Billy McKinney, who has slashed .295/.433/.497/.920 with three home runs, one triple, four doubles, and 18 RBI in 24 games with AAA Round Rock after signing a minor league deal with the Rangers back on May 27th.

McKinney will bat 7th and DH tonight as one of five lefties in the lineup against Orioles right-hander Brandon Young.

If McKinney’s name sounds familiar, that’s because you’ve probably heard it before if you follow Major League Baseball.

Dating back to 2018, McKinney has appeared in seven consecutive seasons with the Yankees (2018,2023), Blue Jays (2018-2020), Brewers (2021), Mets (2021), Dodgers (2021), A’s (2022), and Pirates (2024).

After logging over 300 pitches across the past four days of extra-inning games, the Rangers also had to make a move in the bullpen to provide coverage for tonight.

Texas recalled Dane Dunning from AAA Round Rock and sent Cole Winn down to make room for him in a move that certainly had to do with usage and not performance, as Winn has a 1.59 ERA in 17 innings with the Rangers this season.

It wouldn’t be out of the question for the Rangers to make this exact move inversely shortly once the bullpen is reset.

Finally, after announcing that he will need to miss more time than originally expected, Tyler Mahle has been transferred to the 15-day IL.
