Rangers Make Burger/Crim Swap Official, Swap Infielders
After yesterday’s 3-0 loss to the Athletics, it was reported that the Texas Rangers would be making a roster shakeup.
Those reports were officially confirmed by the club before Friday night’s series opener against the first-place Seattle Mariners.
Blaine Crim has been called up to MLB for the first time in his career. He will make his MLB debut tonight, batting 8th and playing first base.
After being drafted by the Rangers in the 19th round of the 2019 draft, Crim has slashed .313/.365/.507 with 110 home runs and 420 RBI in the minor leagues.
Jake Burger has been optioned to AAA Round Rock after opening the season with just a .190 batting average with three home runs, five doubles, and 12 RBI.
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said before the game that Burger was heading to AAA to work on some things offensively and find his swing again.
To get Crim on the 40-man roster, Nick Ahmed has been designated for assignment. Ahmed played in five games for the Rangers without recording a base hit.
Still needing coverage in the infield as Corey Seager remains on the IL, Texas has recalled Jonathan Ornelas.
