Rangers Can’t Come Up With Big Hit In 3-2 Loss To Yankees

No matter what happened this afternoon, the Texas Rangers would walk out of their series against the New York Yankees feeling good about where things stand.

However, when you have the chance to sweep and multiple opportunities to tie and or take the lead in the finale, it certainly stings a little bit.

On Wednesday afternoon at Globe Life Field, the Rangers couldn’t come up with the one more big hit they needed in a tough 3-2 loss to the Yankees.

Despite that, Texas is still 12-2 at home since July 1st, and the club’s momentum remains high, a level it hasn’t reached all season.

“Good series, hard-fought series,” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said after the game. “It’s hard to take all three against the team you saw today. We had the winning run on base in the 9th inning. You gotta take away a lot of good things from this series, sure, we’d like the one today in a tight ballgame, we just couldn’t get that one more big hit. They had some good at-bats, we just needed that one more and couldn’t get it today”.

As Bochy alluded to, the Rangers had a chance to tie or even win the game in the 9th inning. With two outs, Corey Seager drew a walk and Marcus Semien ripped a single, putting the tying and go-ahead runs on base for Adolis Garcia.

After 35 pitches, Yankees manager Aaron Boone elected to leave closer David Bednar in the game, looking for a five-out save. Unfortunately for the Rangers, Bednar struck Garcia out, ending the game.

New York’s winning run came in the bottom of the seventh when Paul Goldschmidt ripped a pinch-hit home run off Robert Garcia in the 7th inning.

Garcia has now allowed a game-tying or go-ahead home run in each of his last three outings, dating back to the series in Seattle.

Other than that blow, the Rangers bullpen was perfect on a day where starter Jack Leiter went just 3.1 innings after struggling with command issues.

“I just felt a little out of sync, kinda the whole way,” Leiter said. ” I was able to make pitches a compete for some of those early innings, and then the fourth kinda just got out of hand with bad counts and lack of feel for my off-speed pitches, and it just comes down to, I’ve gotta be better and figure out exactly what was out of sync the last couple days and get after it for the next one”.
