Rangers Activate Jon Gray, Designate Luke Jackson For Assignment
The Texas Rangers have made a much-anticipated roster move before their series finale against the Athletics.
Texas announced that they have officially activated Jon Gray from the 60-day injured list and designated Luke Jackson for assignment.
Gray will make his season debut after missing the entirety of the season thus far with a fractured right wrist after being struck with a line drive during Spring Training.
After making three rehab starts, Gray will likely slot into the Rangers bullpen with the DFA of Jackson, who has made 39 relief appearances this season.
Jackson went 2-5 with 9 saves, and a 4.11 ERA after starting the season as the Rangers closer, but was forced into lesser leverage situations after struggles.
As for Gray, he will look to impress the Rangers as he plays the final season of his 4 year $56 million contract he signed prior to the 2022 season.
For Texas, they hope that Gray can become somewhat of an “early trade deadline acquisition” as they seek help in their bullpen.
