Raiders Recent Trade Puts Clarity on Secondary

The Raiders made a trade and in hindsight it was the right move. They opted to move cornerback Jakorian Bennett to the Philadelphia Eagles for defensive tackle Thomas Booker IV. Bennett was pegged to take a larger role and compete within this secondary, but now the Raiders grab a player for a position of need.

There is Clarity After this Trade

One thing that should stick out to the fan base for the Raiders is that there is more clarity on the cornerback situation. Bennett ultimately fell out of favor and the team is opting to have Eric Stokes and Darien Porter as the two corners that will play on the outside. They have been getting the first-team reps, so it seems that they have made their decision in that regard. Porter is the exciting rookie drafted in the third round this year and Stokes is the free agent signing this past offseason. Cornerback Decamerion Richardson will also see playing time and Pete Carroll has always had a way with its secondary. It’s a bummer Bennett did not work out, but they helped fill a void.

Booker is a defensive tackle and after the recent Wilkins release, the team needs all they can get in that regard. It is a wide open door competition wise for the position and the team has already trotted out numerous names in that regard.

Tyree Wilson is hoping to take the next steps and if he can’t, then the team minus we’ll just get ready to part ways. Rookies Tonka Hemingway and JJ Pegues will also have their eyes on the role. Add in Booker, and this room becomes more crowded and in a good way.

Booker played in 17 games last year and started in one. He had one sack and 18 tackles.

The Raiders have a game Thursday against the Seahawks. Carroll has already said the starters will play, so defensively we will get a good gauge on how things look and how this defense shapes up.

Buckle up. It’s almost football time.
