Predicting Team USA’s Flag Football Roster After Owner’s Vote Passes
During Tuesday’s NFL league meetings in Minneapolis, owners are expected to pass a vote to allow players to participate in the flag football tournament in the upcoming Olympic Games.
There’s no doubt that the US will be the very heavy favorites coming into Los Angeles, perhaps the biggest question will be who makes the American squad.
Perhaps there is a chance that the current flag players aren’t just pushed aside for NFL superstars, but they could be.
In the event that NFL stars are more than welcome on the team, let’s dream about what the roster could look like.
QB (2) Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs, Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens
It wouldn’t come as a shock to anyone if Mahomes and Jackson are the two best QBs in the NFL when 2028 rolls around.
Mahomes has expressed interest in playing at the Olympics, and having the best QB in the world on your team would be hard for Team USA to turn down. Adding Jackson as a secondary option gives the Americans the best scambler in the league, who can also drop dimes in necessary.
WR (6) Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings, Ja’Marr Chase, Cincinnati Bengals, CeeDee Lamb, Dallas Cowboys, Malik Nabers, New York Giants. Tyreek Hill, Miami Dolphins, Travis Hunter, Jacksonville Jaguars
The USA receiving room could basically be the LSU fun house. Jefferson and Chase combine to make the two best receivers in the NFL, while Nabers could give them a run for their money by 2028.
Lamb continues to have exceptional season after season with the Dallas Cowboys while Hill is one of the best route runners in the NFL and has expressed severe interest in playing in the Games.
Travis Hunter could be an attractive option to Team USA due to his ability to play both sides of the ball. If he does so successful in the NFL, there is no doubt American brass will want hilton suit up in Los Angales.
C (1) Brock Bowers
The center position is a lot different in flag football compared to the NFL. In flag play, the center is basically a tight end since blocking is not allowed.
Brock Bowers had the best season we’ve seen from a rookie tight end in a long time. After a 1,194-yard season with the Raiders, Bowers projects as one of, if not the best, tight ends in football by 2028.
CB (2) Derek Stingley Jr., Houston Texans, Pat Surtan, Denver Broncos
Not enough people talk about Derek Stingley Jr as being the best CB in the NFL. When it comes to coverage and forced turnovers, Stingley consistently ranks among the best.
Likewise, Pat Surtan has passed every test since being drafted and is one of, if not the best, lockdown corners in the league.
S (2) Jessie Bates III, Atlanta Falcons, Kyle Hamilton, Baltimore Ravens
Team USA will want true safeties on their roster to play the position during the 2028 Olympics, and Bates and Hamilton are two of the best. No doubt that both of these guys will create easily the best safety duo at the Olympic Games
Rushers (2) Will Anderson, Houston Texans, Micah Parsons ,Dallas Cowboys
This all-Texas rushing duo would be absolutely electric. Both players have a great mix of strength but also speed. Much like they do in the NFL, this duo would be the stars of opposing countries’ QB nightmares.
