Predicting AL Central 2025 All-Star Game picks

Voting for the 2025 MLB All-Star game is well underway! While there are a few clear players who will make the cut, the AL Central will also send a couple players who have flown under the radar but still deserve national attention for their standout performances.

Chicago White Sox: Shane Smith
Smith’s acceleration from a Rule 5 Draft pick to a prospective All-Star is impressive. Fewer than six months ago, Smith was hardly recognized by anyone outside of the Brewers organization. Now, he’s the best starter in Chicago’s rotation, with a 2.37 ERA and 1.14 WHIP through 68 innings. His endurance this early in his rookie year is impressive, and he knows how to pitch himself out of trouble. With Smith, the Sox will offer one of the best AL Central pitchers to the ASG.

Cleveland Guardians: José Ramírez and Steven Kwan
Cleveland will send its most reliable bats to Atlanta this year. Ramírez should make his seventh career and fifth straight All-Star appearance in July with a .333/.393/.553 slash line and 19 stolen bases. He leads the Guardians in hits, doubles, runs, home runs, RBIs, and stolen bases in 65 games … and if that hold to the end of the season it would be the third time achieving so in his career, a feat no other player has done since 1920. Kwan will be named an All-Star for the second time. His .309 batting average and relentless at-bats have been his strength, and his Gold Glove-level defense is enough to give him a spot on the roster.

Detroit Tigers: Tarik Skubal, Riley Greene, Spencer Torkelson
Detroit’s youth will take the mid-summer classic by storm, and they’ll be led by none other than Skubal. The 2024 AL Cy Young winner and All-Star has a 2.16 ERA and 0.82 WHIP. In 2025 he has already pitched a Maddux and has insane 11.33 K/9 and 15.00 K/BB rates. Skubal’s presence at the ASG needs no other explanation.

Greene will return to the ASG with similar stats as last season. Although he’s striking out much more, he’s also slashing .276/.327/.488 with 69 hits and 44 RBIs. As a budding talent in MLB, fans and analysts will want him to be an All-Star. Torkelson also benefits from the same league and fan hype. His .500 slugging percentage and 15 home runs rank Top 20 in the league and make him a token first base pick. Greene and Torkelson will bring adequate bats to the ASG.

Kansas City Royals: Bobby Witt Jr., Maikel Garcia, Kris Bubic
Witt is a guaranteed All-Star. After winning nearly every AL position player accolade last year, he’s trying to go back for seconds. Witt is batting .291, slugging .492, stealing 21 bases, and hitting 22 doubles this year. Garcia is making a strong case for his first ASG berth; as a lesser-known Royal, he’s hitting .312 with a .497 slugging percentage and 24 walks. Garcia may not be a household name now, but his quiet success is a pleasant surprise this season.

Minnesota Twins: Byron Buxton and Jhoan Durán
If Buxton remains healthy through July, he’ll be an All-Star. He is holding a .258/.319/.479 slash line in his 10th year of his career, and is on pace to outperform his 2022 season stats (when he first played in the ASG). Buxton has always been a solid player, but injuries typically disrupt his success. Durán has also been affected by injuries, but to a lesser extent. His strained oblique hampered his 2024 pitching, but the elite closer is back to normal. Durán has a 4-1 record, 1.19 ERA, and 1.02 WHIP. He has only missed one of 11 save opportunities. Though he doesn’t get many save chances, Durán’s effectiveness warrants All-Star recognition.
