Pistons To Keep an Eye on during the Summer League
Ron Holland
As a 19 year old rookie Holland early on proved that he belonged at the NBA level. He played 81 games this past year and provided athleticism, energy, and toughness to the team. He played 15 minutes per game for a bonafide playoff team, and depending upon what improvements he made during the offseason should be an even bigger contributor this upcoming year. His biggest deficit came at the offensive side of the ball in the way of outside shooting making him a liability in certain lineup combinations. Holland shot 23% from beyond the arc. He also could stand to improve his decision-making and being more discipline on the defensive side of the ball. I expect for him to dominate at Summer League given his experience but the hopes is that he will begin to blossom in the areas of improvement that were mentioned.
Bobi Klintman
Klintman arguably had the most impressive Summer League this past year, and there was some legitimate buzz that he could receive some early rotational minutes going into the Regular Season. Unfortunately, a calf injury would sideline him for nearly 2 months pushing him completely out of the picture for playing time with the parent team. Klintman would go on to have a serviceable year at the G League level average 13 points and 7 rebounds per game. Throughout Summer league Klintman displayed the ability to create for himself and others, rebound at his position and space the floor efficiently. Look for him to continue that progression and contend meaningful minutes, as the Pistons seek more production from the Power Forward position this year.
Brice Williams
An underrated name that you may not be familiar with is UDFA Brice Williams out of Nebraska. He is a 6’6 wing and boast a 6’10 wingspan. He is an all-around talent on the offensive side of the ball. He operated as a highly efficient heavy usage player who shot well from the outside that utilizes his crafty dribble to effectively work down hill, draw contact, and finish at the rim. He was a 20 point scorer at Nebraska but will have to prove that he can defend at the next level inspire of some athletic deficiencies.
Brice Williams is headed to Detroit to join the @DetroitPistons 🔥

Chaz Lanier
It obviously wouldn’t wouldn’t be a proper summer league without the newest draft picks showcasing their skill. The Pistons lone draft pick this year was Chaz Lanier, a sharpshooter out of Tennessee. He hopes to be the second Volunteer on the squad to make an impact on the team along with Tobias Harris. Lanier is a tough shot-maker that specializes in relocating without the ball and knocking down mid and long range jumpers. He will likely play considerable minutes to display his ability to fill it up and a high rate all over the perimeter.
In the wake of the current controversy surrounding Malik Beasley I think it sheds some light and adds context on the heavy emphasis to stockpile shooters. Being that we may not know the full impact prior to Summer League, it should be a very interesting development to see how the young players perform.
