Pistons fall to the Knicks in Controversial Fashion
The Knicks were able to hold off the Detroit, to defeat them 94-93 in dramatic fashion. In the end, New York’s start power was able to combat the onslaught put on by the Detroit in the second half after starting very slow start out the gate. The Pistons started the game missing their first ten 3 point attempts. In addition, they turned the ball over 10 times in the first half, making it very difficult to get in the flow of the offense. Karl-Anthony Towns and Brunson combined for 25 heading into the intermission, and took a comfortable 10 point lead into the half.
The Pistons come out the gate early increasing their defensive intensity. Cade Cunningham would immediately get going to start the 3rd, and combined with a strong effort from Tobias Harris Detroit would regain the lead, swinging the momentum of the game. Tobias would pick up 2 fouls in the 3rd and the forcing him to the bench prematurely. New York’s postseason would hang in the balance after a scary injury to Brunson’s right ankle during a struggle over the ball with Dennis Shroeder. This is the same ankle that held Brunson out for over a month late in the regular season. Brunson would re-enter the game after a few minutes, after being barely being able to walk just moments before. Brunson would convert on several key bucket down the stretch, finishing with 32 points on 50% shooting from the field.
Two corner threes by Mikal Bridges and a number of improbable shots by Towns would enable the Knicks to regain the lead in the closing moments of the game. The Pistons would have one final chance to win the ball game. Cunningham go on to miss a midrange jumper, the ball would leak out to Tim Hardaway in the corner, and after a quick pump fake got Josh Hart off his feet, the refs would swallow their whistle on what would later be deemed a false no-call giving the Knicks a victory by one point.
Did the pistons get robbed? No call on Tim Hardaway’s final shot of the game.

The Knicks now lead the series 3-1 and will look to send the Pistons home on Tuesday. The Pistons have now lost both games at home by a combined 3 points, after regaining Home Court Advantage at the conclusion of Game 2. Historically, the team that takes a 3-1 lead has won 95% the time, meaning the Pistons have quite the uphill battle to overcome if they plan to advance to the second round.
