Pete Crow-Armstrong’s Blunder Cost The Cubs A Crucial Run
The Chicago Cubs are in a tough spot right now. Last night, they dropped a second straight game to their arch rivals, and have now slipped to a 2.5-game lead in the National League Central. Their offense has taken a dip as of late, and is not putting up the STELLAR numbers that they were scoring back in April and May. The pitching has been atrocious, with guys like Ben Brown and Jameson Taillon both giving up eight runs in their last two starts.
They have become a shell of their former selves in the month of June. But am I worried? Not quite. I know that it’s a long season, and that teams like this have their ebbs and flows. It’s just a rough patch, and as long as this front office ACTUALLY does something by the deadline to help bolster their pitching……then we should be good to head into the postseason.
I am not freaking out about the team as a whole quite yet. But what I am freaking out about……is THIS nonsense from last night, when MVP-candidate Pete Crow-Armstong’s lapse in judgment cost his team a crucial run in the bottom of the fourth inning at Busch Stadium.
Oh no PCA

PCA, for those of you who are unaware, has been one of the most electric players in the league so far this season. In 77 games, the former New York Mets 1st-round pick has put up a top-tier stat line consisting of;
.273 BA, 21 HR, 61 RBI, .872 OPS
He has also been one of the best defenders in the league as well, ranking 8th in the Majors with a 1.2 dWAR. But last night, he did not show that “prowess” or that “IQ” in one of the most pivotal parts of the game. With Masyn Winn (arguably St. Louis’ fastest player) on second, PCA’s “brain fart” in deep center allowed the speedster to motor all the way around the base paths to score what some would consider the “game winning run” for the Cardinals.
It was a moment that sent myself, and the rest of Chicago, into an absolute FRENZY! Granted, this will not happen all of the time. I’m not expecting the thing between Pete’s ears to malfunction like that on a regular basis. But regardless…..we CAN’T have that happen.That is an inexcusable play for someone who’s LITERALLY in the running for the NL MVP to make.
Personally, I hope that this is not indicative of what’s to come for Craig Counsell’s merry band of bat swingers. Figure it out, Pete! But in the end, as always…..what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
