Nuggets Sign Hidden Gems Tamar Bates and Curtis Jones to Two-Way Contracts

Even though the Denver Nuggets didn’t have any picks in the 2025 NBA Draft, they still brought in some fresh blood. They quickly signed Tamar Bates, a 6’4 guard from Missouri, and Curtis Jones, a 6’5 guard from Iowa State. Both got two-way contracts. These guys have potential and skills that could really work with how Denver trains players.

Bates started college at Indiana but finished at Mizzou. He had a good senior year, scoring 13.3 points per game and hitting almost 40% of his three-pointers. He was a killer from the free-throw line, making almost 95% of his shots. He’s a smart player with a nice shot who fits well in a system that values moving the ball and spacing the floor, which is exactly what the Nuggets like to do.

Jones is a tough player who can play on both ends of the court. At Iowa State, he was known for his defense and being able to score in different ways. He put up 10.4 points, almost 3 rebounds, and about 2 assists a game. He also guarded the other team’s best perimeter players in the Big 12. Jones isn’t the most refined offensive player, but he brings energy, is physical, and loves to defend. This makes him a good fit for the G League. As a combo guard, he gives Denver another flexible option in the backcourt who can handle the ball, pressure other guards, and just hustle on every play.

Without any draft picks, these were smart, safe moves by the Nuggets. They continue to focus on having depth, good shooting, and developing players. Don’t be shocked if either Bates or Jones turns out to be another two-way success out of Denver.
