Will the NCAA drop the hammer on the University of Michigan?
On Friday June 6th and Saturday June 7th in Indianapolis, Indiana the University of Michigan will have their day in court with NCAA to defend themselves against the accusations of cheating from the 2021-2023 seasons including their National Championship. Michigan was accused of stealing signs from opposing teams in those seasons. Former Michigan staffer Connor Stallions was implicated in this scandal. He was accused of advanced sideline scouting and stealing signs of future Michigan football opponents including Ohio State. It was at this point when Michigan defeated Ohio State in four consecutive seasons.
From 2000-2019 the Ohio State Buckeyes record against the Michigan Wolverines was 17-3. In 2020 Michigan opted out of the Ohio State game due to Covid. However, there were rumors that Harbaugh knew that they would have been blown out in Ann Arbor by the Buckeyes and that could have cost Harbaugh his job. Which is why the Michigan football team opted out of the game that season. Nonetheless Michigan went on to turn the rivalry around on Ohio State for the next four seasons. Then Michigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh left Michigan for the NFL after wining his National Championship in 2023. This happened as the NCAA investigation started to ramp up as evidence started to be revealed. Despite having these allegations hanging over them, Michigan was able to upset the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus last season 13-10.
The online back and forth between Buckeyes fans and Wolverines fans has been epic. But the facts and evidence will come to light with the truth. Despite the truth being revealed fans on either side will be skeptical of the NCAA ruling and punishment. Regardless the University Michigan will not escape with out punishment. I would expect a post season and bowl game ban for the next two or three seasons along with recruitment restrictions. We can also expect vacating of wins and possibly Michigan being stripped of their 2023 National Championship. However, the stripping of the National Title is unlikely. The final ruling and punishment are expected to be in 45 days after the hearing. I am like many other college football fans want this to be over with once and for all. Then the Ohio State Buckeyes can go back to beating Michigan consistently. Then justice can be served. And like revenge being served on a cold dish. Justice can be served on a cold day in late November.
