NFL Trade Idea Sends Shedeur Sanders to NFC Contender

Shedeur Sanders has a chance to be one of the steals of the NFL Draft.

After being viewed as a top selection leading up to the big night, Sanders fell all the way to the fifth round. The Cleveland Browns selected Sanders and added him to a busy quarterback room with Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel.

While there is plenty of competition, Sanders has a chance to enter the season as the starting quarterback. If he is not viewed as the franchise option, could Sanders be on the move?

A recent trade idea around the NFL world had Sanders being moved to an NFC contender if the Browns do not feel good about his development.

In this trade, Sanders would be sent to the Detroit Lions in return for Hendon Hooker and a sixth-round pick in 2026.

This would be a low-end trade that swaps backup quarterbacks. For the Lions, it gives the team a more promising backup quarterback behind Jared Goff. Hooker has struggled to take the next step during his time in the league. Detroit also holds many picks, which means parting ways with a sixth-round pick would not be an issue.

For Cleveland, it allows the team to move on with other options under center, including Gabriel, who was taken in the third round. Hooker would still get a chance to compete but there would be far less pressure within the organization to make certain moves.

It is a fun idea to think about but with the value of Sanders in the fifth round, it’s hard to imagine he is moved. There is a chance he could turn into the Top 10 prospect that was expected heading into the draft. Cleveland has been in search of its next franchise quarterback for quite some time. Sanders has a chance to blossom into that, even if it is not this year.

The quarterback battle in Cleveland will be an interesting one. There is a chance that Flacco or Pickett starts Week 1 but these are not long-term options for the Browns. Sanders is in the mix to be that long-term option.
