Toronto Gets Swept In First Road Series, Loses 2-1 To Mets
Another low scoring, tough fought contest results in a 2-1 Blue Jays loss and a series sweep by the New York Mets on Sunday. Toronto was coming off back-to-back losses in the first two games of the series, and were only looking to avoid the sweep, after they were the ones doing the sweeping in their previous series, beating Washington in three straight.
Bowden Francis took the hill for Toronto and was stellar once again, going over five innings and only allowing two runs. The problem for the Jays once again lied in the run production, only being able to muster one run against David Peterson and the rest of the Met’s pitching staff.
New York Struck first in the ballgame, putting two runs across in the third inning after a Pete Alonso single, and a Brandon Nimmo sac fly. This was all the offence New York would need to get the win, as the pitching only gave up a single blemish in the fifth when a hit by pitch with the bases loaded would bring Toronto’s only run of the ballgame across.
After three straight losses, Toronto falls from second to third in the AL East, and only sitting at 1.5 games out of last place in the division with a crucial three game series against their division rivals in the Boston Red Sox coming up next. The Blue Jays need to find a way to bounce themselves back into the win column if they wan to remain competitive in this division. With every team looking like they can be playoff calibre, Toronto has to make the most out of their opportunities in series just like their one coming up against Boston.
