Luka Signs 3 Year $165 Million Extension With Lakers

Rest assured, Lakers fans, Luka isn’t going anywhere.

On Saturday morning, the Los Angeles Lakers and superstar Luka Doncic reached an agreement on a three-year, $165 million maximum extension with a player option for 2028.

Doncic could opt out of the deal in 2028 and sign a new agreement projected to last five years, with a salary of $147 million, accounting for 35% of the salary cap.

“I’m really grateful to the Lakers organization, my teammates, and the fans for welcoming me and my family with so much support and kindness since day one,” Doncic said.

“This is an amazing organization, and I truly believe in what we’re building together. I’m going to keep working as hard as I can to bring another championship to Los Angeles and to make Laker Nation proud”.

Last year, Los Angeles acquired Doncic in a stunning move that saw Anthony Davis and Max Christie head to Dallas.

After the trade, Doncic put up 28.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per contest in 28 games with the purple and gold.

Following a regular season that secured them the second seed, the Lakers fell to Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round.

This off-season, the Lakers brought in the likes of DeAndre Ayton and Marcus Smart to add to a core of Doncic, LeBron James, and Austin Reeves, filling out a team that is expected to compete for a championship in a crowded Western Conference.

“Luka is an absolute killer on the court, and blends that with a unique generosity and care for the community,” Lakers GM Rob Pelinka said. “Above all else, Luka will lead our franchise to pursue future championships, a goal that will forever define the Lakers.”
