Longtime Stars Benn, Seguin Combine To Win Game 3
Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin have been mainstays in Victory Green for the last eleven seasons.
At 35 and 33, respectively, they’re still getting things done for a Stars team that has been a staple in cup contention.
On Wednesday night, Benn and Seguin combined to help the Stars pick up a huge 2-1 win and series lead in Colorado.
Trailing 1-0 for the majority of the night, Dallas took to the power play late in the third, looking for an equalizer.
Just eight seconds in, Thomas Harley fired a shot from the point that went off Benn’s stick and into the back of the net.
[It was a] huge relief,” Stars goalie Jake Oettinger said. “It felt like we were knocking on the door for a while, and felt like we were going to get our chance if we could just keep it close.
And we did that as a group. Power play stepped up huge, and happy to see ‘Benner’ (score). Huge goal. Everyone along this run’s going to have to step up.”
After Benn’s goal tied things, the Stars headed into overtime needing to kill off a huge double minor.
For the second straight game, Dallas killed off a Colorado penalty to begin the overtime frame and help setup their winner.
Once Mason Marchment got out of the box, he helped set up Tyler Seguin, who fired the Stars into the series lead.
“I wanted to one-time it. It was off, a little inside, and my subconscious was go low glove,” Seguin said. “I think you think about OT winners and you feel how important they are, but [there’s] just so much more tonight than that goal. I mean, it’s the penalty kill. It’s the details of the game of what the guys did.
Stars head coach Peter DeBoer complemented the full team effort after the win.
Gutsy win,” DeBoer said. “You go in after the game and you want to acknowledge some of the key guys and key plays, and really, I could’ve gone around the room. Everybody jumped in tonight and did their part. I thought we worked for a win, did a lot of really good things.
