Let’s Stay Together: Trade Winds Blow as Cleveland Guardians Beat Colorado Rockies
Cleveland Guardians fans tried to enjoy last night’s victory over the Colorado Rockies at Progressive Field.
But the question persisted: Is this Steven Kwan’s last game in a Cleveland uniform?
Kwan has won three Gold Gloves and has established himself as one of the best Cleveland leadoff hitters in recent memory.
With the trade deadline looming today at 6 p.m., speculation has Kwan heading off to Toronto or somewhere on the West Coast.
Tomorrow, we’ll know if Kwan and Carlos Santana will be sticking around as the 54-54 Guardians battle for a playoff spot in the last two months of the season.
BULLPEN GAME … IT WORKS!
Kolby Allard teamed with his fellow bullpen guys to shut out the Rockies on three hits. Allard struck out five batters in his 3 1/3 innings of work.
It was a remarkable comeback, as Allard was cut from the team earlier in the month before returning a few days later.
Matt Festa finished the fourth inning. Jakob Junis (3-1) pitched the next two.
The new back end of the bullpen (Nic Enright, Hunter Gaddis and Cade Smith) delivered one scoreless inning each.
FRY AND FRIENDS
David Fry belted a two-run homer to score Jose Ramirez in the first inning.
Brayan Rocchio’s sacrifice fly scored Fry to increase the lead to 3-0 in the fourth.
The Guardians picked up two more in the eighth on a single by Kyle Manzardo and a double by Santana.
NOW WE WAIT
Cleveland has the day off today. Whoever doesn’t get traded will host the Minnesota Twins tomorrow night.
If Joe Ryan (10-5) is still with the Twins, he’ll start against the Guardians’ Gavin Williams (6-4).
