Kyle Manzardo’s Walk-Off Winner Was Worth the Wait for Cleveland Guardians
Three hours is a long time to sit around NOT watching baseball.
Fans who showed up at Progressive Field for a 6:10 game didn’t see the first pitch until 9:15.
The Cleveland Guardians and Minnesota Twins didn’t want a rain delay during the game, so they waited two hours for the rain to start.
PLAY BALL!
Tanner Bibee finally took the mound for the Guardians against the Twins’ Chris Paddack. Bibee pitched seven innings and gave up one run.
In the third inning, Bo Naylor smashed three home runs to right field in the same at-bat. The first two were foul balls, but the third one counted.
Cleveland’s 1-0 lead lasted until the top of the sixth, when the Twins’ Ty France hit a solo homer off Bibee.
The Guardians’ ace has been susceptible to the long ball, as he has given up nine homers in six starts.
Cade Smith and Emmanuel Clase kept the Twins off the board by pitching a scoreless eighth and ninth, respectively.
THE BIG BOPPER
Manzardo rewarded the Guardians fans who stuck around until after 11:30 with a game-winning solo homer to right field.
He has settled into the middle of the lineup with eight homers and 19 RBI so far.
Clase picked up the win to improve his record to 4-0. Minnesota reliever Louis Varland dropped to 1-2.
Game 3 of the series is set for 6:10 p.m. Luis Ortiz (2-3) will take the mound for the Guardians against the Twins’ Pablo Lopez (2-1).
