Joyful Rangers Explode For 20 Runs, Beat Angels 20-3
Anytime you have a bullpen game, you hope that your offense can find a way to put runs on the board as you try to piece together the pitching.
The Texas Rangers got more than a few runs tonight as they took Nathan Eovaldi’s turn in the rotation for the first time since his season-ending rotator cuff strain.
Texas exploded for 20 runs on 22 hits as they took down the Los Angeles Angels 20-3 to claim a series victory and claim a 5-1 home stand.
“Tonight was a big game for us,” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said. “To take the series and have a really good home stand, you always want to win the last one when you’re going from the series. The bats were there from the start, great at bats”…
Adolis Garcia got things started in the very first inning when he blasted a three-run home run as part of a four-run first.
Joc Pederson swatted a three-run home run of his own in the 2nd, and from there, the floodgates were open.
Texas scored another four runs in the 4th, one in the fifth, and eight in the seventh against a pair of Angels position players.
20 runs and 22 hits were the most since July 25th of 2011, when the Rangers totaled 20 runs and 27 hits in a 20-6 victory over the Twins at The Ballpark in Arlington.
12 different Rangers recorded a hit in the game, tying the record for the most number of players to have a base hit in a single game in franchise history.
Despite all of the remarkable stats and numbers, perhaps the most important moments came in between when cameras caught Rangers players smiling and laughing in the dugout after what’s been a tough season.
“It does a lot, you want them to smile and have fun while having success,” Bochy said. “They’ve been through a lot, we’ve had gut punches through tough losses and injuries, but you can’t stop enjoying the game and playing the game and having fun with it.
Sure, you take that intensity out there, but enjoy it and play with passion, that’s what it’s about. The last thing I want anyone to do is hang their head or woe is me but they haven’t done that, they really haven’t, and again we’re trying to get where he need to go but you gotta enjoy the ride, that’s really important for these guys, it looesns them up, allows them to play with freedom to have sucess.
