Josh Jung’s Multi Homer Night Lifts Rangers Past Rockies
For the second straight night, the entirety of the Rangers came off the bat of one player.
24 hours after Wyatt Langfordās two-run blast provided all the Texas offense, it was Josh Jungās turn to carry the load.
On Tuesday night at Globe Life Field, Jung belted two home runs, knocking in all four runs in a 4-1 Rangers victory.
It didnāt take long for Jung to hit his first as after Sam Haggerty and Wyatt Langford both reached base to begin the game, Jung lined a three run jimmy jack into the Rangers bullpen.
Not until the 8th did Jung collect his second of the night as Texas was leading 3-1 when he drove a Zach Angos splitter into the left field seats to give the Rangers a huge insurance run and make it 4-1.
āHeās been swinging it well,ā Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said after the game. ā[Heās played] good defense, heās been really playing some inspiring baseball.
āObviously, he gets the big home runs there. We needed it, their guy [Kyle Freeland 6 IP 3ER] settled down and pitched a good ball game for them, couldnāt quite put it away but Josh gave us a pretty good dayā.
Jack Leiter took the ball for the Rangers and earned the win, turning in his first career quality start, going six innings, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out five.
āI thought he [Leiter] did a pretty nice job,ā Bochy said. Good stuff, really good stuff, good fastball, slider was working well, he had the changeup, curveball was missing a little bit, but overall, thatās a quality outingā.
Already down their closer, the Rangers bullpen needed to come up huge in order to lock down the win.
Hoby Milner came on in the 7th and threw two scoreless innings in what would be his longest outing of the season.
Then, in the 9th, the Rangers turned to Chris Martin to pitch for a third straight day and try to earn the save.
However, after just one pitch, Martin would leave the game with Rangers head athletic trainer Matt Lucero with what Bruce Bochy described as āright elbow tightnessā. He will be re-evaluated tomorrow as Texas loses a pitcher after having thrown just one pitch in the 9th inning for the second consecutive game.
Just like Jacob Webb did last night, Shawn Armstrong had to come on and earn the save following the injury. With the tying run at the plate, Armstrong struck out the side to secure the win.
āHe threw strikes, quality strikes, got the called strikeouts,ā Bochy said. āHe did a really nice job, didnāt he? Heās got the experience, he can handle back end of the bullpen action [during] the last two or three innings so itās good to have him down thereā.
