Jose Ramirez, Tanner Bibee Lead Cleveland Guardians Past Baltimore Orioles
After losing 10 in a row, the Cleveland Guardians have won nine of their last 11 games.
They made two comebacks last night in a 10-5 victory over the Baltimore Orioles at Progressive Field.
Tanner Bibee (6-9) overcame a rough first inning to win his second straight start.
Steven Kwan returned to the top of the lineup after missing the weekend’s games with a wrist injury. He reached base five times.
DON’T ARRIVE LATE
Each team scored three runs in the first inning.
Gunnar Henderson put Baltimore on top with an RBI single. He scored on a two-run single by former Guardians outfielder Ramon Laureano.
Jose Ramirez evened the score with a three-run homer. Ramirez has 20 homers and 20 steals for the seventh year, trailing only Bobby Bonds (10), Barry Bonds (10), and Bobby Abreu (8).
Laureano struck again in the third inning with a two-run homer, but Bibee lasted seven innings while his teammates mounted a comeback.
EVERYBODY PITCHES IN
Carlos Santana singled to score Ramirez in the fourth.
Bo Naylor hit his 10th homer of the year to tie the game at 5-5 in the fifth. Naylor had two hits to improve his batting average to .171.
Kyle Manzardo bashed his 16th homer to give the Guardians a 6-5 lead in the sixth.
CAN’T FIND THE PLATE
Cleveland blew the game open with four runs in the seventh inning. Baltimore reliever Grant Wolfram walked Nolan Jones and Daniel Schneemann with the bases loaded.
Brayan Rocchio completed the scoring with a two-run single.
Even though the Guardians scored 10 runs, they left 15 runners on base!
Kolby Allard and Hunter Gaddis finished up on the mound for the Guardians.
Cleveland will try to stay hot as the series continues at 6:40 tonight. Joey Cantillo (1-0) will start for the Guardians against Brandon Young for the Orioles (0-4).
