Jaren Jackson Jr. Just Got A BAG From The Grizzlies
The Memphis Grizzlies were wrapped up in their own drama this past season, with the various antics of star PG Ja Morant taking center stage in the headlines. But today, it’s his teammate’s turn to trend on Twitter. Why? Well it’s because PF Jaren Jackson Jr. just got a BAG AND A HALF from the team.
BREAKING: The Memphis Grizzlies and All-Star Jaren Jackson Jr. are expected to agree on a five-year, $240 million maximum renegotiation-and-extension, sources tell ESPN. Jackson, who is coming into his eighth season with the organization, has become a pivotal part of the Memphis Grizzlies. The 25-year old big man was coming into the final year of his 4-year/$104,720,000 deal, before this new maximum was reportedly agreed upon. It will tie the former Michigan State Spartan to the team until the 2030 season, where he is set up to become an unrestricted free agent.
Jackson, for those of you who are unaware, was the teams second leading scorer throughout the 2024-2025 NBA Season. Through 74 games played, #13 was able to put up a stat-line consisting of;
29.8 MPG, 22.2 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 2.0 APG, 48.8 FG%
He was a major piece of the Grizzlies’ success while Morant was dealing with his personal issues, and with the departure of Desmond Bane, he will be looked upon to provide an even bigger spark for the city of Memphis come next season.
This…..this is a BIG MOVE for the young man. The Memphis Grizzlies needed to lock down the 25-year old before he hit the open market. His elite play on defense is his cornerstone trait, with Jackson winning the Defensive Player of the Year award in the 2022-2023 season. Not only that; he has also become an offensive juggernaut for Tuomas Iisalo’s squad.
The main problem? It’s his health and availability. With an injury history consisting of meniscus tears and foot fractures, the 4th overall pick of the 2018 NBA Draft has been seen as a bit of a liability in recent years. BUT, with the 74 games that he was able to start in last season, it looks like the big fella could be moving on from his health scares.
In the end though; this is a BIG moment for Memphis. After they basically FLEECED the Orlando Magic; where they received FOUR future first round picks, Cole Anthony, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope for Desmond Bane; this team is GEARING UP for a major run in the near future. They are securing their star-talent to major contracts, and are trying to build around them with all of the draft capital that they received.
BIG things are happening for the Grizz, to the point where it might be time to hop on their bandwagon. But in the end, as always….what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
