I Think I Want The Chicago Bears To Draft Ashton Jeanty
Rumors. When it comes to the NFL Draft (or any major sports draft, to be honest), rumors can be the biggest emotional pieces of content in all of media. It doesn’t matter if they seem reasonable, or come directly out of right field; whenever a “sports insider” says that they’re getting information from their sources, fans stop and listen. Fans take in the information, formulate an opinion, and then argue that said opinion until the bitter end.
It’s a tale as old as time. But, after the Bears’ most recent acquisitions of Jonah Jackson and Joe Thuney…..there is one rumor that I’m starting to gravitate towards a little bit more. That rumor, ladies and gentlemen, is that the Chicago Bears are going to take Boise State standout RB Ashton Jeanty with the 10th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Jeanty, for those of you who have been living under a rock, finished 2nd last season in Heisman voting, losing to Colorado’s WR/CB Travis Hunter. In 2024, this man put on a SHOW for the college football world, posting a stat-line consisting of;
374 Att, 2601 Yds, 7.0 Y/A, 29 TDs
He was ELITE, and one of the main reasons (if not THE main reason) that Boise State made the CFB Playoff in 2024. Unfortunately, their miracle season did come to an ABRUPT END at the Fiesta Bowl, when Jeanty and co. lost to the 4th seeded Penn State Nittany Lions by a score of 31-14.
Not the end to a college career that Jeanty was hoping for. But that didn’t stop his draft stock, as he remained the top back coming out of college over the likes of Omarion Hampton and Kaleb Johnson. With a skill set that has been called “generational” by some scouts across the country, this man is looking to become one of the top picks in the NFL Draft come April 24th.
He’s a great back! But to be honest, when I first heard that Chicago was thinking about drafting him…..I was a little skeptical about it. I didn’t think that they really needed him. With guys like D’Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson on their roster, and the fact that their O-Line was as useful as a bank of turnstiles last season……the thought of bringing ANOTHER BACK into the room just sounded like a waste of a pick.
But now, with Jackson and Thuney in the mix……the idea of Jeanty in the navy and orange is starting to sound a little less crazy. The thought of Jeanty running the ball up and down Soldier Field on Sundays is starting to become a little clearer. With (roughly) $45 million to play with in free agency, I feel like Ryan Poles and co. have enough assets to take care of other positions, so that they can go get the best back in the draft
I mean, just think about it; if Ryan Poles brings Jeanty in, he can move Swift to another team to create more assets (if any), and turn his backfield into the speedster/bruiser duo that Ben Johnson knows and loves. He would have two young, talented backs on rookie deals, that will allow him to utilize more of his cap across the rest of the roster.
Sure, this does seem like a bit of a “pipe dream.” Sure, I would still like them to go OL in the draft, so that they can build a little more depth at a position that had trouble staying healthy last season. But in the end, all I’m really trying to say is that this move….it could work. It makes a lot more sense, compared to a couple of weeks ago.
Will it happen though? Who knows! When it comes to the Chicago Bears drafting (minus last year), you should always expect the unexpected. But in the end, as always…..what do i know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
