How Do the Cleveland Guardians Compare to the Top Teams in Major League Baseball?
The Cleveland Guardians got rained out last night in the nation’s capital.
They will play a doubleheader against the Washington Nationals starting at 3:35 p.m. Luis Ortiz and Ben Lively will start for Cleveland.
Now is a great time to look around Major League Baseball to see how the Guardians compare to baseball’s best teams.
AL CENTRAL
Detroit is off to a hot start at 22-13, with the Guardians in second place by 1½ games. The Tigers have the formidable duo of Tarik Skubal and Jack Flaherty in the starting rotation.
The difference for Detroit is their powerful lineup, led by Spencer Torkelson with 10 home runs.
AL EAST
The New York Yankees are predictably leading the pack, despite losing Juan Soto to the Mets. Aaron Judge is on his way to a historic season, hitting .414 with 11 homers and 33 RBI.
Still, the Yankees are only 19-16. Their bullpen has been a problem, as Devin Williams (10.03 ERA) lost his job as closer.
AL WEST
Seattle is in first place with a 20-14 record, one game ahead of the (Your City’s Name Here) Athletics.
Seattle catcher Cal Raleigh leads the AL with 12 homers. Sacramento closer Mason Miller has already racked up 10 saves.
NL EAST
The New York Mets (23-13) are three games ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies, and Soto hasn’t even caught fire yet.
Instead, Pete Alonso is leading the Mets with a .349 batting average and 33 RBI.
NL CENTRAL
The Chicago Cubs are another team with improved offense, as they have cruised to a 22-14 start.
Seiya Suzuki and Kyle Tucker have already driven in 30 runs, and Pete Crow-Armstrong has added nine homers to the Cubbies’ attack.
NL WEST
Here’s the best race of them all. The World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers are 24-11, but the San Diego Padres (23-11) and San Francisco Giants (22-14) are right on their heels.
Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto leads MLB with a 0.90 ERA, while Padres closer Robert Suarez is on top with 14 saves.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
While the National League has some formidable teams, the good news for Guardians fans is that the American League pennant race is wide open.
Cleveland has a strong chance at another division championship, and the Yankees are clearly not as strong as they were last year.
