How Corey Seager’s Hamstring Injury Could Lead To A Second IL Stint
On April 22nd, Corey Seager left the Rangers game in Sacramento against the A’s with what ended up as a grade one hamstring strain.
Later that week, Seager was placed on the ten-day IL, hoping that he would come off when he was eligible.
Fortunately, that was the case as Seager was activated ten days later, but the response was not what Texas had hoped for.
Seager’s hamstring remained sore, and after playing four games in a row since coming off the IL, he has played just one of the next four.
Now, after the Rangers third win in a row, they will get news on the health of their superstar shortstop.
After the Rangers 2-1 win over the Rockies on Monday night, manager Bruce Bochy said the team would know more on Seager’s condition on Tuesday.
Before the game, Bochy called it a “game-time decision” on whether or not they would need to make a move involving Seager.
Ultimately, the Rangers did not make a move, but one could be on the cusp on Tuesday as catcher Kyle Higashioka seems ready to come off the IL.
Moving Seager to the IL would not be ideal for a Rangers offense that seems to be catching its stride.
In the event that Seager does need the IL once again, Josh Smith’s health would come into the spotlight after he was scratched from the lineup yesterday with a sore back.
Ezequiel Duran played shortstop on Monday for the second straight night and went 0-3 with a strikeout.
However, Duran could run into some consistent playing time if both Seager and Smith are unavailable for some time.
There’s no doubt that Seager’s presence completely changes the Rangers lineup, so losing him once again could be a big blow.
In an ideal world, Seager’s hamstring responds when he gets to the ballpark today, and he is ready to go for the remainder of the home stand.
If that is not the case, pressure will come upon the rest of the lineup to continue their hot run without it’s best player.
