Gut Check Time For The Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers most recent home stand didn’t go the way they wanted, and that’s putting it lightly.

After taking the first two games against the New York Yankees, the Rangers looked like they were in position for yet another solid run as the Phillies and Diamondbacks came to town.

However, that did not happen in the slightest.

The Rangers took just one of the remaining seven games as they were swept by Philadelphia and dropped two of three to Arizona in heartbreaking fashion.

Following a go-ahead 9th inning home run off the bat of D-Backs star second baseman Ketel Marte on Wednesday, the Rangers fell back to .500 at 61-61.

What followed that was almost certainly an uncomfortable 3-hour and 10-minute flight from DFW to Toronto.

From the outside looking in, things look pretty bleak with a .500 record and a tough road trip ahead, but don’t tell Bruce Bochy that.

No, no, no, “We’re men, we gotta bounce back,” Bochy said after Wednesday afternoon’s gut-wrenching loss.

“Sure, it’s not the home stand we were hoping to have, but in this game, you gotta be resilient,” Bochy finished.

Resilience seems to be all the Rangers have at this point, as this trip looks like gut check time for a team fighting to stay in the Wild Card race.

This weekend’s series against the Blue Jays puts Texas in a road matchup against the team with the best home record in the American League.

After that test, they will travel to Kansas City to face a suddenly hot Royals team that sits just half a game behind the Rangers entering play on Friday.

Starting Friday night, the Rangers will play 13 games in 13 days, including battling Cleveland and the Angels on their next home stand.

Despite that being a daunting task, this stretch may make or break the fate of the Rangers’ 2025 season.
