Giants Ace Logan Webb Having Career Season

There’s just something special about the San Francisco Giants organization and their ability to churn out strong pitching. Heck, that was a massive focal point to them winning their World Series Championships and they pitched their way to them.

The 2025 Giants are for real and they’ve been a pleasant surprise to start the season. They’ve shown flashes at the plate, but the bats need to be better. One thing that has stood out in the best way is the pitching as a whole, but particularly Logan Webb.

It’s a Career Season for Webb

It’s easy to be a fan of Logan Webb. The guy takes the ball every fifth day and shoves it down the other team’s throats and executes. He is a caliber pitcher and a true workhorse. Over the last four years, Webb has thrown 100+ innings and has surpassed 200+ innings pitched the last two seasons. You love to see it. The 28 year old has been with the illustrious franchise since 2019 and is having his best year since being part of the Giants rotation.

Let’s start with the simple stuff to help paint this picture of how the season is going. As it currently stands, Webb has a 2.58 ERA, which is the lowest of his career. His career best was 2.90 that he had during the 2022 season. He’s always been effective, maintaining his ERA to stay between 3.00-3.50. Those are just the easy numbers. That’s what people will look for first and give a yay or nay on his performance. Now, let’s get into the meat and potatoes of this dish that is Webb’s season and unpack what’s made it super successful.

One thing that he has done this season is adjust his arm angle. Courtesy of former pitcher and current Athletics broadcaster Dallas Braden, he sat down with Webb on the success that is the Slab Lab, to discuss the mechanics that is Webb. Webb discussed this specific area on the show and noted it’s something that he has changed over the span of the last few seasons. In 2022, his arm sat lower with 14 degrees and then he raised it to 22 degrees the last two seasons. It’s how up to 23, and gives him a more “over the top delivery”.

Whatever works right? For Webb it certainly has. He has seen an uptick on his velocity with his pitches and he’s been in full attack mode when finding the zone. There have been numerous improvements for Webb this season compared to last season, adding to why it’s been a career year. The stuff under the hood has played a key factor in the results.

His walk rate has significantly gone down from 5.9% to 4.8%. You love to see that the BB/9 is down from 2.20 in 2024 to 1.75 in 2025. A good recipe of success is that the strikeout rate is way up for Webb. His K% has never been higher, sitting at 28.5% and his K/9 sits at 10.41, which is the highest it’s ever been and also is the 11th best among qualified starting pitchers. Webb still is only ranking in the 68th percentile for chase rate and 60th for whiff rate, but is getting the job done.

It helps that the success he is having can be attributed to the success with his pitches. The whiff rates are higher and he has three different pitches with a put away percentage above 20%. He’s able to beat you in different ways and that’s huge for Webb.

He is an ace and he’s been pitching like an ace and if you are a Giants fan you love to see it. Pitching has carried them a long ways, and that’s not including how Robbie Ray looks like his CY Young self once again. The bullpen has been absolutely filthy, they just need more offense.

This is all about Webb and just how dialed in he’s been and how great he’s been this season. He is such an easy guy to root for and a treat to watch go to work when he’s on the mound.
