George Springer: Major League Baseball’s Major All-Star Snub
With the complete MLB All-Star teams having been released over the last couple of days, there’s bound to be some players that are left out. Blue Jays outfielder George Springer pretty much tops that list.
George Springer, 35, has had a resurgent year in 2025, notching 16 HR and 53 RBIs before the all star break; where he leads the entire Blue Jays. In the American League, Springer ranks 5th in slugging percentage, and 4th in both OPS and wRC+.
Spoken about broadly in a recent article, Springer has been on a massive hot streak over the past 15 games, where he has come up clutch in big moments, either knocking in important runs, or putting the game on his bat and knocking it out of the park.
Although not named to the All-Star game, George Springer was named AL Player of the Week, hitting .429 (12-for-28) with 5 home runs, 13 RBIs, and posting a ridiculous 1.464 OPS over the last week.
The biggest argument with Springer not making the All-Star game, is that Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez made the Atlanta contest over the Blue Jays slugger. As of July 8th, Rodriguez, only 24, trails Springer in almost every major offensive category, including home runs (16-11), RBI (53-43), on-base percentage (.368-.306), and OPS (.872-.695). Julio does have more hits, but with about 60 more plate appearances, Springer still beats him out on batting average comparisons.
This season, the AL outfield is extremely deep. Regardless, Springer should’ve easily made it in with the stats he’s built up over the course of the season, as he is one of the main reasons that the Toronto Blue Jays sit 1st place atop the AL East. Arguably, Springer should’ve made it over Guardians’. Steven Kwan, and Twins’ Byron Buxton. There is no debate though, that George should have made it over Julio Rodriguez.
With Springer being left off the All-Star team, it will give the 35-year old outfielder a couple days off to rest and recover, and hopefully come back even stronger to help power the Blue Jays through the final stretch of the season, and potentially finish as AL East Champions.
