Former Ranger Nathaniel Lowe Ends Up With Red Sox After Nationals DFA

The Boston Red Sox are finalizing a deal to bring in former Rangers fan favorite Nathaniel Lowe after he was designated for assignment by the Washington Nationals earlier this week.

Lowe struggled during his first year in DC, slashing .216/.292/.373 with 16 home runs and 68 RBI in 119 games with the Nationals this season.

In December, the Rangers traded Lowe to Washington in exchange for reliever Robert Garcia, who has a 3.69 ERA in 46.1 innings.

At many points this season, Rangers fans were hoping the team would find a way to reacquire Lowe, but those doors closed when Texas brought in Rowdy Tellez.

Now, Lowe will join a Red Sox team that sits in a playoff position and features one of the deepest lineups in the American League.

Boston has needed an everyday first baseman ever since Triston Casas suffered a season-ending left patellar tendon rupture in May.

As the season winds down, Lowe will be fighting with his new team in the same wild-card race that the Rangers find themselves in.
