Dustin Rhodes, Athena Retain Championships on AEW Collision
Dustin Rhodes has his own feel-good story going in AEW, just like his brother Cody did when he “finished the story” at WrestleMania 40.
Rhodes won the TNT championship at All In Texas, and he successfully defended the belt last night on Collision with a win over Lee Moriarty.
The 56-year-old Rhodes may not be champion for long, as Kyle Fletcher will get a title shot next Thursday on Collision.
Many people thought Fletcher would beat Adam Cole for the TNT belt at All In Texas, but Cole’s injury turned the match into a four-way, which Rhodes won.
ATHENA IS FOREVER
Athena continued her never-ending reign as Ring Of Honor women’s champion by defeating Alex Windsor in the main event.
Billie Starkz joined Athena for a post-match attack before “Timeless” Toni Storm made the save.
Remember, Athena won a future shot at Storm’s AEW women’s title at All In Texas.
RELOAD THE GUNNS
Colten Gunn suffered a knee injury last week on Collision, so Juice Robinson replaced his fellow Bang Bang Gang member in the tournament for an AEW tag team title shot.
Robinson and Austin Gunn defeated Big Bill and Brian Keith to advance in the tournament. FTR will be their next opponents.
The other two quarterfinal matches are The Outrunners vs. The Young Bucks; and Bandido & Brody King vs. The Gates of Agony.
The Outrunners teamed with Tomohiro Ishii & Hologram to win a $400,000 eight-man match over Lance Archer, Hechicero & The Infantry.
Nick Wayne & Kip Sabian defeated AR Fox & Angelico. Wayne pinned Angelico after the Killswitch.
THE TRIANGLE HAS FORMED
Julia Hart, Skye Blue & Thekla teamed up for the first time as The Triangle of Madness. They scored a decisive win over Rachael Ellering, Mazzerati & Laynie Luck.
Queen Aminata came to the ring, looking for revenge from Hart’s black mist attack last week. However, Megan Bayne powerbombed the Queen instead.
THE ACCLAIMED EXPLODES … AGAIN
Anthony Bowens responded to Max Caster’s “Best Wrestler Alive” challenge and beat him again, like he did at the Dynasty pay-per-view in April.
Bowens kept attacking his former Acclaimed partner until Billy Gunn broke up the fight.
Announcer Tony Schiavone credited Hulk Hogan for putting World Championship Wrestling on the map (buy the book!) and asked fans to remember the Hulkster’s grieving family.
Schiavone finished by saying “RIP, brother.”
