Do The A’s Get Their Commentators From Wish.com?

Is it just me, or have the Oakland/Sacramento/Las Vegas Athletics become a joke of a franchise in recent years? From the run-down Coliseum where they spent SO MANY YEARS playing ball, to all of the drama that the owners have put fans through with their move to Las Vegas; the 1989 World Series Champions are in a pit of despair in the MLB, and haven’t found a way out.

They’re a laughing stock, and that’s putting it mildly. And this past Saturday was a PERFECT EXAMPLE of how pitiful the organization has become, when this home run call made fans all across the country ask themselves; “what the hell was this guy watching?”

FOUL?!? When I first saw this clip on social media, I thought it was a joke. I thought some X(Twitter) user took a home run clip from the A’s official account, and put his own call over it as a gag. BUT, when I started to see other publications repost the blunder, I began to realize……this was real. This ACTUALLY HAPPENED during a live broadcast of a professional baseball game.

I…..I don’t know how much more fair A’s OF Lawrence Butler had to hit that thing. The 25-year old from New Jersey, who now has 15 DINGERS on the year, absolutely MUSCLED that baseball deep into the right field bleachers of Daikin Park. It was a no-doubter. It was a bomb that “Law-DAWG” knew was gone when it left his bat, which ended up giving his team a commanding 5-1 lead in the top of the ninth.

But for some reason, A’s play-by-play announcer Chris Caray (yes, he is the great-grandson of Harry Caray), initially thought it was foul. I personally don’t know how he could’ve came to that conclusion, unless his view was blocked by someone trying to “scooch” past him towards the rest room. It seemed pretty obvious if he was tracking the ball all the way through.

I mean sure; one could argue that Caray was focusing on Butler at the dish, and probably thought the ball was going foul based on the fact that he wasn’t moving. But as a professional baseball commentator…..shouldn’t he know that guys are “pimping” home runs nowadays? Shouldn’t he know that players want to make “spectacles” of everything they do, unlike the greats of yesteryear?

It makes sense, doesn’t it?

In the end though; was this a mistake? Obviously! Will it happen again? Who knows! But does this continue the never-ending trend of comedic clips that have come from the Atheltics’ booth? YOU KNOW IT!

Too damn funny! Hats off to Caray and co. for giving us a good laugh. But in the end, as always…..what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
