Disaster at the Apex – UFC Vegas 107 Main Event Cancelled

Erin Blanchfield vs Maycee Barber

On Saturday night, as Erin Blanchfield and Maycee Barber were preparing for their main event bout, with serious implications for the Women’s Flyweight division, fans and commentators were left shocked when the fight was abruptly cancelled. Maycee Barber, who was returning to the octagon after 14 months away due to other medical issues, reportedly suffered a seizure backstage and was unable to compete. After missing weight by half a pound, it’s easy to wonder to what degree her troubles with the weight cut could have contributed to her medical issue, and if the Flyweight division, if she ever returns to competition at all, is right for her.

Mateusz Gamrot vs Ludovit Klein

As a result of the unfortunate cancelation, the de facto main event of the night was the lightweight bout between Mateusz Gamrot and Ludovit Klein, which ended in a decision victory for the “Gamer”, who keeps his #7 ranking in the division. Klein, who previously had not lost since 2021, was well aware of the takedown threat from Gamrot, stating that he knew he may be taken down, but that he had the skills to win the fight. Regardless of whether or not Klein underestimated Gamrot, the Polish fighter scored six takedowns and dominated with a total of 142 significant strikes over three rounds on his way to a unanimous decision.

Billy Ray Goff vs Ramiz Brahimaj

Ramiz Brahimaj got to walk away the biggest winner from Saturday’s action, cashing in as the biggest underdog on the card and putting relative UFC newcomer Billy Ray Goff to sleep with a high arm guillotine in round 1 before delivering an impassioned speech afterwards, speaking about his struggles in the sport and almost retiring two years ago.

Dustin Jacoby vs Bruno Lopes

Dustin Jacoby was the night’s other big winner, scoring the only knockout of the event when he dusted Bruno Lopes with a flurry of punches in the first round. This was a good get right fight for Jacoby, who complained about not receiving a performance bonus from the UFC, given that he was the only fighter to get a KO on the card. We will see if the UFC continues to match him up with contenders, or if they give him a fight worthy of a Light Heavyweight ranking.
