Cubs start huge series with the Brewers at Wrigley
The Chicago Cubs hold a 5.5-game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central. Those two teams kick off a huge series at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night. It’s only the middle of June, but if the Cubs could pull off a sweep in this series, they would feel really good about their chances of winning the division.
Tuesday night’s game features Chad Patrick of the Brewers against Ben Brown for the Cubs. Brown looked like he had finally turned the corner, giving up just two earned runs over 13 innings in starts against the Cincinnati Reds and Detroit Tigers. However, he got tagged for six earned runs in his last start- a loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. Chicago is going to need Brown to be good if they are going to make a deep run in the postseason.
On Wednesday, Milwaukee will send rookie Jacob Misiorowski to the mound for his second big league start. For Chicago, Jameson Taillon will take the hill. Taillon has been a quality start machine for the Cubs, posting a quality start in 10 of his 14 outings this season, including the last six in a row.
In the series finale on Thursday, the Brewers will send their ace Freddy Peralta to the mound to take on rookie Cade Horton for the Cubs. Horton could be pitching for his spot in the rotation as Craig Counsell will have a decision to make when Shota Imanaga returns from the injured list in the next couple of weeks. Horton has been solid so far in his rookie season, posting a 3.47 ERA with 29 strikeouts in 36 1/2 innings.
