The 2025 Colorado Rockies Might Be the Worst Team in Baseball History
Baseball is a beautiful game and has been around for a very long time. Baseball fans across the world have gotten the pleasure to witness some of the best players touch the diamond and the best teams rise to the top of the baseball mountain. However, there is the other end of the spectrum as well. Fans have gotten to witness some of the worst performances on the diamond, but also some of the worst teams. Not to mention, the last three seasons fans have witnessed some of the worst teams in baseball history. However, none may be worse than the 2025 Colorado Rockies.
The 2025 Colorado Rockies Are Awful
We are now entering three consecutive seasons where fans are witnessing some of the worst teams in MLB History. Two of the best memories in recent years for myself, was the AL MVP race between Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge in 2023 and seeing the dominance those two displayed in 2024. But something to look back on and think about is the ongoing streak of historically bad baseball teams.
The Oakland Athletics were horrendous in 2023, going 50-112. The poor fans on the Southside of Chicago watched the White Sox become the worst team in baseball history going 41-121. The bar could not be lower, but the Rockies said, “hold my beer.”
The Rockies are off to an abysmal start and play in arguably the toughest division in baseball. They have a dreadful 7-33 record and fired their manager Bud Black. Black has been in that position for the last nine years. For context, the White Sox were 12-28 through their first 40 games last season.
It’s been bad and the record doesn’t do it enough justice. Underneath the surface, this team legitimately does not do anything good on the diamond.
It’s Not Just Bad, It’s Ugly
It’s actually painful to even discuss this because there is actually talent on the roster. Ezequiel Tovar is a solid player. Kyle Freeland, Brenton Doyle, Chase Dollander. They have some pieces. Not a lot, but some and they rank 18th in terms of their farm system and are getting a quality player in this upcoming draft. But as a team it is extremely ugly under the surface and collectively they are playing a bad brand of baseball.
Let’s start with life at the plate. They have only five batters hitting above .250 and four have an OPS above .700. For better context, only two batters have a wRC+ above 100, so they are barely getting league average hitting.
The Rockies sit 29th in runs, 27th in hits, 29th in RBI’s, 23rd in home runs, 28th in average, 29th in OBP, and finally 26th in slugging. They do nothing well at the plate, other than lead the league in triples. It’s sad. Very sad.
While life at the plate isn’t good, life on the mound is no better. They have the worst ERA in baseball and strikeout batters the fewest. They have the most runs, most earned runs, while allowing alot of home runs and walking batters . It’s quite ugly.
They just do nothing good and it’s really sad. This was once an organization that was putting a quality product on the diamond that made the playoffs. Now they just have an awesome stadium with awesome city connect jerseys. But the fact of the matter is that those fans deserve better because they are a loyal group.
Rockies Fans Deserve Better
It is not often you see your team get their doors blown off and the fans are still sitting and soaking in the game and cheering on the team. The Padres defeated the Rockies 21-0, yes a real score on Saturday Night. You’d think that the fans would leave and go do something more productive with their time, but nope they stayed.
What’s interesting about this video isn’t that the Rockies are losing 19-0, but that many fans are still at a game where their team is losing 19-0. https://t.co/d02YUlFmOb pic.twitter.com/ha0rnRgneN

That’s a real photo with real fans that LOVE this baseball team. It’s ugly on the field and that fan base deserves better and deserves to go to that park and see a team worth watching. If that doesn’t show you anything, veteran pitcher Kyle Freeland showed raw emotion this week while addressing the media. He simply told Rockies fans to keep believing in them.

Losing isn’t fun and these guys certainly want to win and compete more. It has been painful for the Rockies this season and sadly are on track to be the worst team in baseball history.
