College World Series: We’re In Omaha
Folks, we’ve made it. The plane has landed in Omaha. The road to the College World Series continues and the remaining eight teams look to capture the title.
For those who maybe have missed some of the games or want to know a bit more to who’s still in it and who you should put your stock into, here is who’s left and what’s helped gotten them this far.
College World Series Matchups
Coastal Carolina v Arizona
We’ve got ourselves a rematch folks. 2016 was when these two teams met and battled for the championship. Coastal Carolina won the title and the first time in program history. It’s also the first time they’ve made it this far since then.
Their coach just won coach of the year and they have one of the top prospects in Caden Bodine and arguably one of the best put together rotations in College Baseball. The offense has shown promise and flash, very evident in the Regionals, but the pitching is a large reason for their success.
Arizona made a stamp on their season, ranking 16th at their peak in the top 25. Their pitching, much like Coastal Carolina is quite the bunch and a group that helped lead to a successful season. Their offense was a bit lackluster despite having the pieces. We could really have a pitching duel this series of games and could be great to watch if you are into that sort of thing. I know I am.
Louisville v Oregon State
Louisville is a team that managed to defy their own expectations and perform better than what some give credit to. They finished with a 40-22 record, which is one of their best finishes to a season inside this decade. It’s a pesky bunch and if they continue to capitalize on the chances they do get, escaping this Beavers team is hopeful.
This team was as good as their peak rankings (6th in the nation). They had some high expectations and it’s safe to say they met those. They have it all and do have balance and having balance can make you a good team and a dangerous team. They have the pitching and they have the hitting. This is a team that maybe some have overlooked, but shouldn’t. They have a complete roster with very little flaws and it could be a huge contender in Omaha.
Murray State v UCLA
The Cinderella Story continues for Murray State. If you actually look where this team plays, it basically looks like a glorified high school baseball stadium that seats just 800 people. And they’ve managed to get to the Elite Eight. They’ve beaten proven teams and teams that have way more depth than they do and defeated Duke to make it this far. They chip away at games and are a true underdog story. Murray State is not supposed to be here, but that’s the best part about postseason chaos.
UCLA is one tough customer and will be quite a challenge for Murray State. This was a team that was young and inexperienced and they’ve now channeled that experience to growing themselves as a team. They have a very balanced offense that has no issues taking to the attack and also a pitching staff that executes and delivers.
This is what makes them a problem. Balance and precision with executing. An underdog against a big riser. Get the popcorn ready.
LSU v Arkansas
The last two SEC teams that remain get the luxury of going head to head. We can call this Battle of the Titans. This is an Arkansas team that at their peak was first in the Nation and plays an exceptional brand of baseball.
They are dominant, well balanced, and have the depth to overpower teams. It doesn’t matter if it is the pitching or if it is the hitting, they have it all. You have to be near perfect when facing them because they can out score you and shut you down at the same time.
LSU is a fun team to monitor. They faced a ton of turnover and saw alot of key pieces leave the program and get drafted. Like Arkansas, they also at their peak during the season have been the best team in the country and now find themselves back in Omaha. Kade Anderson and Anthony Eyanson can very well spearhead this team to a tile and very much past Arkansas.
This really seems like a championship series and the winner of this has a very good chance of winning it all at the end.
