Cleveland Guardians’ Suspended Game with Minnesota Twins to Be Completed Today

Getting suspended from school or employment is a bad thing. Pink Floyd had a more positive take on the word.

There’s no sensation to compare with this

Suspended animation – a state of bliss

In baseball, it’s just a case of “hurry up and wait.”

The Cleveland Guardians’ game against Minnesota was suspended in the fourth inning last night after two rain delays, with the Twins leading 2-1.

Radio announcer Tom Hamilton couldn’t believe that the umpires restarted the game after the first rain delay, as the third inning took place in a downpour.

The game will continue today at 6:10 Eastern time, and the regularly scheduled matchup will start 30 minutes after the opener is finally finished.

Gavin Williams was set to start today’s game for Cleveland against Chris Paddack. Both bullpens will be put to the test, as they will have six innings of work before the regularly scheduled game begins.

THE ACTION THUS FAR

Cleveland got on the board when Angel Martinez singled in the first inning and scored on a double by Kyle Manzardo.

The Twins’ Ryan Jeffers, a rare leadoff-hitting catcher, scored on a single by Ty France to tie the game.

Minnesota moved ahead 2-1 in the second inning when Willi Castro doubled to score Harrison Bader.

Logan Allen started for Cleveland and gave up four hits and two runs. Bailey Ober surrendered three hits and a run. Both starters struck out three hitters in three innings.

WE NEED OFFENSE

After the Guardians’ punchless performance over the weekend in Cincinnati, the offense needs a boost. Fortunately, David Fry is going on a rehab assignment with the Akron RubberDucks. He underwent reconstructive elbow surgery in November.

Lane Thomas is also on a rehab assignment, playing in Columbus while recovering from a wrist injury. The outfield could use more offensive production, as Jhonkensy Noel, Nolan Jones, and Will Brennan are hitting below .200.
