Cleveland Guardians Rally From 4-0 Deficit to Defeat Los Angeles Angels 7-5

With the Cleveland Guardians trailing 5-2 in the fifth inning on Saturday, they were in danger of losing another series to a team from Los Angeles.

They didn’t give up, and they tied the “Guardian Angel” series with a 7-5 victory.

Slade Cecconi started for Cleveland after sitting out a few days to rest a groin injury. He gave up back-to-back homers in the third inning to Yoan Moncada and Taylor Ward.

The Angels increased their lead to 4-0 when Jo Adell hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning.

LITTLE LEAGUE HOMER

Cleveland right fielder Nolan Jones, who is finally hitting the ball well, smashed a triple to center field, scoring Gabriel Arias.

Shortstop Zach Neto’s wild relay throw allowed Jones to score with a head-first dive.

Cecconi was charged with another run in the fifth when Mike Trout doubled off Hunter Gaddis.

LONG-BALL BARRAGE

Jose Ramirez started the comeback with a solo homer to right field off Angels starter Kyle Hendricks, cutting the lead to 5-3 in the fifth.

Steven Kwan went deep in the sixth, and Carlos Santana connected off reliever Ryan Zeferjahn to tie the score in the seventh.

Cleveland kept the party going in the seventh with Arias bashing a double to center, scoring Bo Naylor and Daniel Schneemann with the go-ahead runs.

THE SECRET SAUCE

The Guardians’ comeback win was brought to you by the bullpen.

Nic Enright, Logan Allen, Cade Smith, and Emmanuel Clase kept the Halos off the scoreboard in the final four innings.

Allen, making his first big-league relief appearance after 54 starts, got the win. His record is 3-3.

Clase picked up his 12th save, lowering his ERA to 4.13.

David Fry is back on the Guardians’ roster after elbow surgery, with Lane Thomas going back on the injured list. Fry hasn’t played yet.

The series finale will start at 1:40 p.m. Gavin Williams (4-3) will start for the Guardians against the Angels’ Jack Kochanowicz (3-6).
