Cleveland Guardians’ Bats Remain Cold as Atlanta Braves Cruise to 10-1 Victory

The Atlanta Braves have been one of the most disappointing teams in baseball this season.

They have shown signs of life this weekend, beating the Cleveland Guardians 2-0 on Friday night and 10-1 last night at Progressive Field.

Cleveland only mustered two hits off Hurston Waldrep and three relievers in Friday’s loss.

SLIGHT SLUMP FOR SLADE

Slade Cecconi had his second straight rough start for Cleveland last night. He gave up 10 hits and eight runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Atlanta scored three times in the second inning on an RBI single by Nacho Alvarez Jr. and a two-run double by Nick Allen.

The Guardians scored their only run in the third on Brayan Rocchio’s second home run of the year.

Atlanta increased the lead to 5-1 in the fourth. Nacho Jr. scored on a wild pitch.

Alvarez drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, which turned into a double play when Steven Kwan threw out Jurickson Profar at third base.

Michael Harris Jr. knocked Cecconi out of the game in the fifth with a three-run homer that put Atlanta on top 8-1.

The Braves picked up their last two runs in the sixth off Kolby Allard. Drake Baldwin drove in a run with a groundout, and Marcell Ozuna added a sacrifice fly.

ASSESSING THE DAMAGE

Detroit has won four in a row, so Cleveland is 8½ games behind the Tigers in the AL Central Division.

The Guardians trail the New York Yankees by 2½ games in the wild-card race.

Cleveland will try to salvage the last game of the series today at 1:40 p.m. Logan Allen (7-9) will start for the Guardians against Erick Fedde (4-12) for the Braves.
