Chelsea’s Wonder Kid Stars In Club World Cup Debut
The Club World Cup is well and truly underway, with four matches already completed. The most exciting one for Chelsea fans so far was when Brazilian side Palmeiras faced Portuguese giants Porto. The game wasn’t a barn burner by any means, ending 0–0, but there were still some exciting moments along the way.
Much of the excitement came from the younger stars on the pitch, such as Porto’s Samu Aghehowa and Rodrigo Mora, who were attacking threats throughout the 90 minutes. For the Brazilian side, nearly all of their forward play went through Chelsea-bound wonderkid Estêvão. He already has a historic youth and senior career with the São Paulo-based club, having broken Neymar’s record for goals and assists in Brazil’s Série A before turning 18.
Head of Palmeiras’ academy, Joao Paulo Sampaio:
🗣”I would say that with Estevao it’s not a matter of whether this place is easier or not because he’s the kind of player that just goes there and gets things done. When you are an extra-class like him, that’s how you do it.”

The young star didn’t put up huge numbers in the match, but he was able to impact the game from both flanks and through the middle, showcasing the versatility that will no doubt benefit him in his first season at Chelsea. The Porto game could serve as a launch pad for Estêvão, who will look to build on his Player of the Match performance and help his Palmeiras side advance to the next round in what will be his final competition with the club.
For now, let’s just enjoy watching him light up European competition before he finally makes his long-awaited arrival at SW6.
