Despite his age, Hato has already made over 110 senior appearances and has featured across the left side of the defense, offering the kind of versatility Chelsea are seeking for the new campaign. He will likely start as a backup to both Levi Colwill and Marc Cucurella, who have become key figures at the club thanks to their development as players and leaders last season. For Cucurella in particular, Hato’s arrival should provide some much-needed relief. In terms of play style, he is a possession retainer who excels on the ball, consistently making both calculated and brave passes to break through opposition presses. His wide passing range makes him a reliable distributor, and he pairs that with impressive press resistance, using strong dribbling control to fend off defenders.

Defensively, he is solid in the air relative to his size and position. However, as he transitions to the Premier League, he will need to improve his dueling ability and become more efficient in one-on-one situations.
