Brewers Swap Civale For Sox Vaughn After Fall Out

Very rarely in sports do you request a trade and have it fulfilled in just about 24 hours, but that is exactly what happened for Aaron Civale.

After being told by the Milwaukee Brewers that he would be moving to the bullpen, Civale’s agent, Jack Toffy, told GM Matt Arnold that his client wanted to either remain in the rotation or be traded.

“Whatever’s next, I’m not exactly sure what’s going on,” Civale said. “This is typically early in the season for a trade to go down, but I know what I can do. I think a lot of people know what I can do. Whatever the next steps are, they are. Go from there.”

Despite it being early in the season, the Chicago White Sox stepped up to the plate to acquire Civale’s services in exchange for 1B/OF Andrew Vaughn.

Milwaukee also sent over cash to offset the salary difference between the two players, as Civale is making $8 million this season and Vaughn at $5.85 million.

In five starts this season, Civale posted a 4.91 ERA, prompting the Brewers to make a move and bring up its fourth-ranked prospect Jacob Misiorowski, who fired five no-hit innings against the St Louis Cardinals last night before leaving the game with an injury.

Vaughn has not had an ideal season thus far, slashing just .189/.218/.314 with five home runs and 19 RBI in 48 games with Chicago. Milwaukee has assigned Vaughn to AAA Nashville.
