Bo Naylor Strikes Again as Cleveland Guardians Beat Minnesota Twins 4-1
April wins count just as much as September wins.
We don’t know what the playoff race will look like this fall, but the Cleveland Guardians have won two close games over the Minnesota Twins.
Bo Naylor’s three-run homer in the seventh inning highlighted Cleveland’s 4-2 victory last night.
It was the second homer in as many nights for the Guardians’ catcher. He is batting .191 with four homers and 10 RBI.
PITCHERS DUEL
Cleveland starter Luis Ortiz pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings. He gave up three hits and two walks while striking out five.
Pablo Lopez matched zeroes with Ortiz for six innings before the Guardians broke through after the seventh-inning stretch.
Carlos Santana hit an infield single, with Jose Ramirez scoring on a throwing error by Lopez.
Naylor then blasted a 398-foot homer to right center field, scoring Santana and Gabriel Arias.
IS THE BULLPEN BACK?
Cade Smith, Hunter Gaddis, and Emmanuel Clase struck out eight Twins in 2 2/3 innings. That means all of their outs were strikeouts.
The Twins did some damage when they weren’t whiffing. Brooks Lee homered in the eighth, and Trevor Larnach scored on a wild pitch by Clase in the ninth.
Still, Guardians fans can breathe easier, as Clase picked up his fifth save. We’ll see if he can reduce his 6.75 ERA as the season progresses.
The series will conclude this afternoon at 1:10. The starters are Ben Lively (1-2) for the Guardians and Simeon Woods Richardson (2-2) for the Twins.
