Blaine Crim’s Long Road To The Show Soon To Be Complete
1,200 people can file into a DII Mississippi College Choctaws baseball game at Frierson Field in Clinton, MS.
That’s not a bad figure considering that fewer than 5,000 students attend the school. Since the school was founded in 1826, just seven MLB players have come from there.
Until now…
The Texas Rangers are expected to purchase the contract of Blaine Crim from AAA Round Rock.
When he appears in a big league game for the first time, he will be the first Mississippi College Choctaw to play in MLB since 1988.
Back in 2019, the Rangers selected Crim in the 19th round of the MLB Draft, beginning his long minor league journey.
After the minor league season was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19, Crim burst onto the scene, making it to AA Frisco in 2021 with just 128 games of professional baseball under his belt.
However, his sint in Frisco wouldn’t last long as he played just 154 games with the Riders before getting the call to AAA Round Rock.
For the better part of four years, Crim has been tearing it up with the Express, slashing .286/.373/.486 with 49 home runs and 201 RBI.
Raking at that plate has been a theme through Crim’s minor league career as he holds a slash line of .313/.365/.507 with 110 home runs and 420 RBI as a minor league player.
Throughout his time in the MILB, Crim was eligible for the Rule 5 draft multiple times and was passed on by every MLB team each time.
Now, at age 27, Crim will get an opportunity to take his red-hot bat to the Major Leagues for the first time.
