James Cook Gets Paid, Bills Get Serious About a Championship Run
Bills Mafia can finally relax after all the summer drama with James Cook’s contract! Our main running back is staying put. As on Wednesday August 13th, 2025, The Bills signed James Cook to a four-year extension worth $48 million, with a huge $30 million guaranteed. This is the biggest guarantee for a running back in the last 5 years, and it sends a message from the front office which shows how important Cook is to the Bills’ future. It also shows that they are serious about winning a Super Bowl and continuing to surround Josh Allen with proven pieces that played with him, and have helped him out in tough situations.
Even though, this contract did take a little while to happen with things getting a little tense during training camp when Cook held out on practicing. He returned to practice yesterday, which gave fans hope, that a contract was being worked out, which is important because we all know that Buffalo couldn’t let one of the best and most exciting running backs leave. As in 2024, Cook ran for 1,009 yards, had 16 rushing scores topping the league (tying O.J. Simpson’s Bills record), and a total of 19 scores including the playoffs. This is the most ever for a single season in team history!
He averaged over 4.5 yards per carry, made the Pro Bowl, and made every trip to the red zone a real chance to score. Cook is a threat because he can do it all. He’s strong enough to power through at the goal line, smart enough to spot openings, and fast enough to make big runs. He doesn’t need to be involved in every play to make a difference, his skills when the team needs short yardage and scores puts defenses in tough spots, especially when he’s paired with Josh Allen. Cook’s presence just moves the ball forward; it gives Buffalo an edge. Plus he is still 25 years old, and this contract will take him to 29 and still a decent cost,12 mil a year for a starting running back.
This extension shows how the last few years playoff losses, our in the rearview mirror, and stresses that the organization is happy with the core players of Allen, Christian Benford, Greg Rousseau, Khalil Shakir, Terrell Bernard, and now Cook all locking them up for the long haul. Which shows trust in the team, and keeping Allen surrounded around the same threats to make him have the best chance of winning a Super Bowl. This move not only builds consistency, it is an extension that could make our team more close knit and hopefully be one that turns us into champions.
NOW is the Bills chance to show that we are ready to win the Super Bowl, as fans will be looking forward to see if James Cook can continue his surge of dominance on the 1st regular season game September 7th at Home against The Ravens.
