Betting the Super Bowl: Chiefs or Eagles? There are winners on both sides
The Super Bowl is a national event, even if your favorite team isn’t represented in the big game. One of the reasons so many fans tune into the game isn’t for the pageantry, the commercials, or even the halftime show. No, one of the biggest reasons fans will tune in is for one reason…
Gambling.
Betting on the Super Bowl, at least in the majority of states which gambling is legal, has become a yearly endeavor for fans to try their hand at turning nothing into something. Is there a reason why the Super Bowl is so popular with bettors? You can bet on almost anything.
Length of the National Anthem? Yes.
Color of Gatorade thrown on the winning coach? You bet.
A field goal to hit the uprights? That too.
You see now why the Super Bowl is one of the biggest gambling days in the entire sports calendar. You can’t place these types of bets on any game on the NFL calendar, but on the Super Bowl everything is fair game.
So, what can you do to help maximize your return this Super Bowl? Some will talk about parlays, which we know is a crap shoot, and others will talk Money Lines and Spreads. But let’s also not avoid the lesser known bets which can help you navigate these often muddy waters.
For this exercise we are avoiding parlays and sticking to straight bets. We are also looking for bets which are plus money to help maximize our value on these plays.
If you are like me, you believe Saquon Barkley is truly the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the NFL. Sure, Josh Allen won the award Thursday night, but we truly know who the real MVP is, and that’s a player we want to ride on a long shot bet.
- Saquon Barkley 1 rushing TD & 1 receiving TD (+1000)
If you are looking for a bet which might not have quite the return, but could still check out as a winning bet, try this:
- Patrick Mahomes & Jalen Hurts to combine for 7+ Pass & Rushing TDs (+275)
If you believe the Chiefs defense is going to do everything in their power to stop Saquon Barkley, it will be up to Jalen Hurts to move the ball. If Hurts has just 25+ passing yards each quarter, you could win!
- Jalen Hurts to have 25+ passing yards in each quarter (+155)
If you believe this game will feature a receiver who is going to dominate their matchup and have a big game, to the tune of over 150 yards, you could have a nice pay day!
- Any player to have 150+ receiving yards (+500)
For more specific player props which could help increase your winnings, take a look at some of the following which could pay dividends:
- Jaylen Hurts 225+ Passing Yards (+121)
- Kareem Hunt 50+ Rushing Yards (+132)
- Saquon Barkley 25+ Receiving Yards (+246)
- DaVonta Smith 60+ Receiving Yards (+125)
Betting on the football side of things not really your thing? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered there too…
- Pick the coin toss with both Heads and Tails both sporting +100 odds!
- Think the 1st TD scorer from either team will wear a jersey number of 15.5 or higher? How about lower? Both are -115 odds!
- How about a kicker hitting the upright at some point? If any kick hits the upright, that’s +550 odds!
- Think there will be a blocked punt? If there is, that’s +1100 odds in your favor!
If you haven’t figured it out yet, there are a million different bets and plays you can make on the Super Bowl, and putting a little “action” on the game can make it even more fun to watch! As always be smart about the bets you make, and don’t bet money you can’t afford to lose. We are not giving advice, but merely highlighting plays we think are both unique and entertaining.
