Baseball is Fun Again: Cleveland Guardians Snap 10-Game Losing Streak

After scoring just 15 runs in 10 straight losses, the Cleveland Guardians finally played a good game.

They defeated Houston 7-5 on Monday night. The Astros are in first place in the AL West Division.

The game started in familiar fashion. Cleveland starter Tanner Bibee pitched four shutout innings, but his teammates were unable to score.

The Guardians finally broke out with four runs in the fifth inning. Steven Kwan hit an infield single to score Will Wilson.

Jose Ramirez then launched a three-run homer, his 15th of the season.

NOT AGAIN!

That “rainy day feeling” came right back in the bottom of the fifth, as the Astros scored four runs to tie the game.

Bibee gave up his 16th and 17th homers of the season: a three-run bomb by Taylor Trammell and a solo shot by Isaac Paredes.

However, the Guardians didn’t fold. Brayan Rocchio put Cleveland right back on top in the sixth with a two-run double.

Houston cut the lead to 6-5 in the bottom of the inning when Victor Caratini hit a solo homer off Matt Festa (2-2).

HAPPY ENDING

Cleveland’s bullpen preserved the tenuous lead with scoreless innings by Paul Sewald, Hunter Gaddis, and Emmanuel Clase.

It was just like the “good old days” of 2024. Clase picked up his 19th save and lowered his ERA to 3.20.

The Guardians even got an insurance run in the ninth inning on David Fry’s third home run of the season.

ONE MORE TIME

Houston’s All-Star starter Hunter Brown (9-2, 1.82 ERA) was supposed to pitch this game, but he will go tonight instead.

Cleveland will counter with Joey Cantillo (1-0, 3.41). First pitch is set for 8:10 Eastern time.
